Important things to remember in your studio apartment décor

Studio apartments are extremely popular in cities these days. The reason behind the popularity of studio apartments is the extreme shortage of space due to increasing population in cities. The studio apartments are really small places and one has to really put in effort in order to make the apartment however small a place that is comfortable, functional and decent.

The basic parts in an apartment are a kitchen and a single big living room. The challenge lies in decorating one single room that’s available in such a way that it fulfills your requirements completely. The single studio room should be able to work as your crash-pad after a day’s work, dining area, relaxing area, living room, guest-room, study room and even your dressing room… all of it together. So let’s discuss the things that you need to take care as you do up your studio apartment to make it a comfortable and multi-functional place for yourself-

Space friendly furnishing- Using sofa cum bed is a very good option owing to its ability to serve as a sofa and bed as per one’s convenience. A mattress spread on the floor with interesting bed-cover and cushions to go with which can serve as a floor seating with guests and as a sleeping area at the night time is also a good option. Have a pair of cane chairs or bean bags which you can place in corners against one wall just in case you have old people who can’t sit on the floor visiting your home! Have a rack or shelve or two neatly hung against a wall for your stuff like books, some cosmetics, CDs, accessories etc. Keep atleast one mattress, bed-sheets, pillow spare handy for your guests.

Equipment- Opt for an LCD television that can be fixed onto the wall without consuming much space. Choose a small size fridge that you place on one of your kitchen countertops to avoid using the limited floor space and cramping it all.

Storage spaces- Have good storage space in your studio apartment to avoid cluttering the space with your stuff lying here and there. Have cupboards fixed into the walls instead of buying too many shelves, racks and almirahs. You can buy a trunk too and cover it to be used as a table at one corner of your room but then make sure that you don’t pile on useless stuff on the trunk…keep it clean with just a picture or two on it.

Decoration- Paint a wall with a texture paint to give a fancy and dressy look to the small space you have. Hang pictures of yours and your family in simple frames. Have a plant or two in your kitchen to add some freshness to the whole space. Make sure you have a wooden divider; you can keep the divider at one corner as a decoration artifact and use it when you have guests at your place and you wish to give yourself and them some privacy.

Textured wall in less cost

Bored of plain solid coloured distemper walls? Looking to renovate your house? Changing wall colours and interiors may suffice your requirement, but giving texture to the wall will take the effect to an altogether different level!

Yes, the world is now looking towards texture paint as an alternative to over priced wallpapers. Textured paints are more durable, long lasting, non-falky and hide imperfections in the wall.

Texture paints are of two types- smooth texture and sandpaper texture. The former is used on room walls while the latter looks good on ceilings and exterior where there are less chances of scrutiny. Diverse texture designs are available in the market that will baffle the buyers. From bark effect to shell pattern to comb effect, different types of rollers or brushes are used to impart different effects.

Textures are carved on the surface while the paint is still wet. Brown colour textured as wood looks elegant in a drawing room with beige upholstery for furniture. Conversely, use blue paint ceiling and give it a grainy texture. Paste few fluorescent starts on it and viola! Your sky is ready and bright for nights to come. Popcorn textured ceiling paint also is a fun idea.

Combing technique creates striated patterns while sponging gives a desert effect. These look good in a bathroom. Less cost of paint and a host of added advantages have made texture paints popular with people over a period of time. They work well on the exterior house wall too and can be applied on concrete. The paint can withstand rain, extreme conditions of heat or cold and reflect back UV rays. They are fungal, mildew and algae resistant too.

So what are you waiting for? Use your imagination and give your wall some life.
