A home is where you belong. The feeling of belonging comes from feeling of knowing and association. Association with home comes from the memories of the moments that one spends and has spent throughout in that place called home.

When one moves into a new house, it becomes a home when one spends moments of togetherness, sharing and caring with the family members and the loved ones. A house is a home when sentimental value gets attached to the architecture.

The sentiments are associated with the time that one spends in one’s home through times that are joyous, times that are unhappy. There may be times that are beyond smiles and tears. Words can’t always express what one feels with one’s loved ones in one’s home. 

                                         

What really makes home more special and ideal? Or should we say that special and ideal home adds on to the sentimental value that one may attach with the place to call it home? It is both. If one feels happy and warm thinking about one’s home, if one’s home is a happy place to be in, then home becomes ideal with the mind associations that one has. These sweet and warm feelings towards one’s home makes one try a little extra to decorate one’s home in a way that speaks a ton about oneself. Being in a space that home speaks of you and you reflect your home is what makes it special. It is true otherwise too. For instance, if one decorates one’s home with a lot of thought and a lot of understanding as per one’s taste, the attachment from all the things that contribute to make the home comfortable become high on emotional value and quotient, making the home an ideal place to be in.

Less can be more at times

In an era where open space in a house has become a luxury, going for minimalist decor is the call of the hour. Yes, less can look elegant in houses if done properly. Going minimal does not imply lack of luxury but luxury in a subtle manner. Minimalism is a modern concept which derives inspiration from ancient Japanese culture where a few but necessary elements were kept aesthetically in a room to infuse a sense of extreme simplicity but at the same time, highlighting the functional aspect of the element.

So these days, many architects are going for ‘More for less’ in home designs. As much as the simplistic architecture is necessary to give shape to a minimalist design, so is the right colour for the interiors. White is the most common colour used in this scheme of trend. It is a serene and peaceful colour and carries opulent amount of simplicity. Clean cuts of furniture painted in black or brown add feel to such interiors.

Other elements like non-fussy bright color combinations, natural textures and pattern and fine finishes are other elements incorporated in minimalist design.

So keep what is required and remove the rest and you’ll have a contemporary look to your house with a lot of free space and positivity. Going minimalist does not necessarily means playing down with colours, but using harmonizing tones on the walls.
