Festivals and Colours

India is a land of festivals. Festivals are joyful occasions in India that are celebrated with a lot of flamboyance and presence of the loved ones. Festivals add and enrich the essential colours to life. Every festival has a story, tale and deep significance behind it. The significance is kept alive and celebrated throughout the country and life with a lot of joy, cheer and elation bundled together to form special occasions called festivals.

Diwali is a festival of lights. The colour yellow rules Diwali as the diyas light up every nook and corner. These lights are not just lights per say, they symbolize brightness and darkness being done away with. These lights are deeply connected to fresh beginnings, colours of brightness and lit up joys.

Eid is another festival marked by celebration of food and delicacies. Eid in Arabic means ‘breaking the fast’. The colour associated with the celebration of being alive and being together in fasting as well as celebrating the breaking of this fast is white. The peace and purity that engulf our being after the period of pious fasting is symbolically represented by the colour white.

Holi is one of the other main festivals in the country and is the festival of colours. Holi is a spring festival that marks the ending of one season (winter) and beginning of another (spring). All the colours bright and light, dark and subtle are associated with Holi. The colourful festival adds a sense of playfulness and friendship in everyone’s life.

Not just the ones mentioned, but there are thousands of other festivals that India celebrates every year. These festivals add to the essence of life. Have you ever wondered what does expression mean? Expression is the way one lets others know what goes on in one’s mind. Expression is words, vocabulary and a lot more. Words are just one way to express.

There are some art forms that are used to express one self as beautifully as words can. Performing arts help express one self very deeply. There are colours of depth that are there in the expressions that are communicated with the performing arts. The art forms are a very colourful tool to express oneself, especially dancing.

Someone has rightly said that “Dance is the hidden language of the soul of the body.” Dance is an expression of joy. Movements, gestures and facial expressions when in a colourful harmony make it a delightful way to express and emote. Also, dancing is the most creative and simplest of ways to let the emotions that otherwise are tough to be expressed. One does not need any training when one wishes to dance. Dancing is about letting others see the real individual that one is. It is about letting go of all the inhibitions and shake off all the stress that may have been there restricted and inaccessible for others to see.

Dance is the colourful celebration of being alive. There are millions of ways in which one can express one self, dancing is merely one of them and is the simplest. Dance like no one is there to watch, shed off the inhibitions, let go of all the fears and just celebrate the colourful movement of life. Let the colours inside harmonize with the ones that we inhabit everyday and present a colourful rhythm that has the melodies and colourful notes to match that depth called Life.
