Having a coordinated space takes away more than half the burden of creating a beautiful home. Choose colours for your home decor wisely. Blue in bedrooms

Bedroom is a very important area of the house as it is one corner that’s really built exclusively for taking rest and comfort. Therefore, it should be made sure that bedroom is decorated in such a way that it inspires relaxation and comfort for a person’s mind. It should drain all the tiredness. It should look cool and serene. Blue, they say, is a colour that inspires serenity and coolness in mind. Blue has a very calming effect on one’s mind, it is believed. It is also a very ideal colour that could be chosen for young people’s bedroom as well as for adults’ bedroom.

Having a balance of blues and the neutral colours like beige, cream, white is a good idea. The combination of blues and neutral colours make for a very soothing environment. These colours flow into each other with harmony without letting any one single shade stand out and look pleasing to the eyes. Having light blue walls with cream and white furnishing and the rest of the interiors is a good idea transpiring calmness and colour coordination in the room which relaxes your nerves and makes you calm.

Having one wall painted in dark blue with texture or pattern across it as in the picture is also a very good idea. The roof and side walls near the blue wall need to be painted in lighter colours to make the room look balanced. Wood floors go really well with dark blue wall and even lighter walls. To create a nice, chic and modern looking bedroom, experiment with texture paint in blue with dark wood furnishing in the room.

Make sure of the fact that you do not over express with blue. If you over-express with any colour it would have very negative effect on your mind. It would not result in relaxation; rather it would overwhelm you with a single colour and disturb your sleep patterns. If your bedroom has shades of blue all around it, it would really create a nauseating and trapped atmosphere in your bedroom. It is important to break the monotony and over expression in a room by balancing different colours that blend together. Go ahead and try some blue in your bedroom and create a perfect bedroom for yourself !

Your room speaks volumes about your personality

Our home décor speaks a lot about us. With just one look at our room décor, it is possible to know a lot about our tastes, our nature, our personality and our temperament. Wondering how is it possible? It is. Use of certain colours in a room, with certain kinds of furniture and certain kinds of accessories tell about the person who inhabits in the room.

Let’s see some examples of the above said-

Source - Fropki
Here’s a well furnished room which indeed looks beautiful and inviting at the first sight. The best things about this room include the subtle colour of the walls, the large windows and plants! It is evident from the room’s décor that a person living in the room is someone who likes to play it safe in life and does not experiment too much. The room’s décor is close to perfect and seems universally appealing as it does not tread towards any drama or any kind of loud decoration. The blend of sober wall colours with the freshness brought in by the plants and the windows looks peaceful and induces calmness. The person who would have a room like this one would surely be someone who values comfort along with finer aesthetics as well as the selective calmness of the nature brought home by a glimpse through the windows and placement of the trees at corners.

Source - Bestmodernhouse
This room clearly has a lot of pink and a lot of coordination. The room has an absolute feminine air to it owing to the colour choice. It is easy to look at this room and be able to tell that it’s a girl’s room. The room has pink all around and definitely hints at the eccentricity of the one who inhabits here. The room is thematic in its colour coordination and décor. A décor like this would be a choice of someone who spends a lot of time in the room and is young. It is because such a décor would appeal to someone who is in awe of the colour and is ready for the overwhelming shock value that the décor in one single dominant colour might bring as one enters after a long day! A middle aged person or a working person would not like a décor which is so colour consuming and bright. Having said that, the room décor can be applauded for it’s edgy décor which includes shades of pink and well-cut furnishing!

Source - Defuturedesign
This room seemingly looks like it is decorated by a man and is inhabited by the same. The room is beautiful is dramatic and masculine. The animal skin bed cover and the unique design behind the bed are exquisite and sharp. The room belongs to a person who does not fear going bold and sharp in his choices. Not everyone would like to live in such a room as the room has a definite character and an air that is bold and excitingly dramatic. Right from the bed cover to the wall art to the metallic table with coffee maker to the solitary piece of art resting inside the wall next to the bed are some of the factors that speak volumes about the fearless and confident nature of the person inhabiting in here. The chest and the plant in the room add to the comfort and practical aspect of the personality of the room and the owner of the room!

Source - Fropki
The picture is of a room that’s extremely fancy and is very elaborate. Though the room looks nice, the décor of the room is extremely expensive and lavish. It is evident from the décor of this room that the owner of this room is someone who prefers to be flamboyant and lavish in his/her choice. The room has vintage furnishing and is complicated in tastes. It does present a picture looking at the room done up this way but it is a décor that demands time for its maintenance. The person living in this room is a definite vintage art lover and a carving fan. The elaborate bed, the curvy flooring style, the artistic lamps, the huge fashioned mirrors in the room speak in favour of the person’s artistic and expressive side of the personality.

Source - Rental Decorating
This room is simply marvelous. It is a room that’s not only classy but is contemporary. The person to be using this room would definitely be someone who has a fine understanding of colours, their effect on oneself and their impact when put together in one space. The room has an air of practicality, confidence and sobriety along with class which infact must be true of the taste and personality of the person living in it. The dark wood furniture (comfortable bed stand, tables, chest with drawers for storage, mirror) looks fabulous against the sober, neutral and calm walls. Ample lighting, a spare seating aside that too in neutral colour with a red throw, the carpet on the floor, the plant peeping from the corner and the bright curtains make it an exquisite and very tastefully done space. The person inhabiting this space is definitely someone who is tasteful, peaceful, confident who knows the balance between aesthetics and comfort.

What does your décor say about you? Let your home décor speak of you!

Basic things to know about guest-room décor

                                                                        Guest Room

Guest room is a very important space in one’s house. Therefore, we need to be equally mindful of the way it has to be decorated. Before setting out to decorate a guest room, one has to start thinking from a guest’s point of view. So, what is it that matters the most to the guests? To think practically, the first thing that all our guests would want is hygiene.

A guest room is just the same as a hotel room. Don’t we all like neat and clean rooms whenever we stay at hotels? Going by the same logic, it is important that you provide your guests with clean and tidy room to give them a pleasant stay at your home. Clean bedspreads, pillow covers, floors, walls (free of cobwebs), bathrooms etc. would be the things you need to take care of, to name a few.

Also, make sure that the interiors and the design that you choose for your guest room are easy to maintain as you would be the one who’s going to take care of the room later on. Therefore, go for simple accessories and designs. Avoid using too many complicated engraved and carved accessories; rather go for simple flower pots and paintings that can be cleaned with a wet cloth easily.

Keep the colours of your guestroom neutral as neutral colours are liked by everyone as opposed to the bright colours. Compensate the light shades of the walls with bright pillows, bed-sheets and curtains.

Choose comfortable beds along with comfortable mattresses and place a pair of seating chairs in the room too. A study table, a bed table, cupboards, drawers, dressing table etc. are some other important furniture items that you must provide your guests with.

Get going!

What a beautiful home can do to your mood

Do you know that a tastefully done up house inhabits a happy person? It is true, yes. If you like to spend time in your home and if you love your place, it is highly likely that you’ll be a happy person. Surroundings which look beautiful and inviting facilitate emotional fitness and mental peace.

The question arises how can one relax at home? The answers to this question are multiple. First and most basic is that one needs to do-up one’s home beautifully. One would definitely feel good about the bright walls, the coordinated interior design and the tasteful décor. The décor and design of a place depends on individual to individual.

However, there is another not-so-common thought that really can work wonders to help you relax. The thought is to create a mind space in your home. For instance, make some changes in your home that restrict your mind flow and your energy level. Try to do away with the things you despise in your home, it could be anything, do away with the old bathtub, dull kitchen accessories or may be an entire wall. You can also try reorganizing your home, shift rooms/items and create your own design. A modest improvement and reorganization can help you feel much more at peace as sometimes all you need is to feel the aesthetic edge in your own home. Slight alternation in ambience with change in lighting, may be a wall art, crockery, garden landscape or just changing the direction of your bed can bring about a huge dramatic change in the way you feel about your home!

Take some time to decide on what you may change in your home to make it a better place for yourself. Characterize your home and splash yourself in all the ways possible. It is absolutely possible to create a friendly and smooth place for yourself.

Decorate your child’s nursery

Let’s put together some thoughts and tips to decorate nursery for a baby. It is indeed a pleasure for every mother to decorate her baby’s nursery/room. Nurseries have to be happy and bright.

Be conscious while choosing furniture for the nursery. Do not choke the room with a lot of furniture as that may affect your child’s mood negatively.

Pay attention to colour patterns that you choose for the nursery. Colours that you use shouldn’t be very bright. Warm colours look perfect in a nursery as they induce sleep which is a good thing for a child while very bright colours disturb sleep patterns in a child.

Another most important thing is that nursery room should be very tidy and organized. Keep all the items at the right places. Use closet options and storage furniture to organize well in your nursery. If one chooses to opt for wallpapers to decorate, make sure that the colour patterns go well with the furnishing in the room.

Space is important when it comes to making a room look comfortable and beautiful. Nursery has to be spacious so as to make sure that the baby has room to move around and play. Make sure that the room is well ventilated. Choose bright window curtains for your child’s nursery. Curtains not only help boost colours in a room, but also make sure that there isn’t unwanted sunlight or hard weather conditions outside affecting your child.

Try to give an overall touch of warmth to the nursery. Warmth is something that you absolutely can not miss when it comes to caring for a child. Warm colours, home-made blankets, pillow covers for the child, some family photos and soothing neatness would help you bring the desired effect when it comes to decorating a nursery for your child!

Celebrate and appreciate all the colours

Colours have a life in themselves which is bright, lively and so interesting. We can associate colours that are within with the colours of life outside. There are definite patterns in our colours present within and the colours outside.

There are active days and there are gloomy, lazy and totally counter productive days. Days which are active, which buzz with activity and movement are vibrant coloured days. They are deep green, red and bright yellow days! Days which are lazy, full of leisure are soft pastel and relaxing shades of life. They are light hues, peaceful and tranquil colours of life. Gloomy days are dark, browny and black in temper.

Moments make days and days make for experiences for a whole lifetime. When was the last time that you felt bright hearted, cheerful and lively? Wasn’t it a day with colours of deep crimson reds, lovely lush greens and fantastic blues all around, splashed in luxury? Indeed. Bright days make for a colourful patterns in our lives.

On the other hand, there are days when things do not go our way, these are dark and dull coloured days which exhibit energy of dull shades. These are lightless and subtle colours. They do not have shine. But we have an option of not soaking our moments in these colours, rather making for a life of bright hues.

But, colours- light and dark, both are important. Days which add more life to the rainbow of our life are important while days which are dark are inevitable too. Every night has a day at its end and it is only darker colours that help us embrace brighter and happier shades with a certain sense of gratitude to the almighty. Every colour is significant in life, just like sadness and happiness. Celebrate and appreciate all the colours.

Revel in the magic of natural colours

Grey colour is generally considered to be very boring but if it is combined with brighter colours, then it imparts a different look to the room. Traditionally, grey is combined with pink, white and black. Very few people experiment other combinations of other colour with grey. In this particular picture, the resident of the house has used green with it, and different shades of it – on the wall, on the upholstery and on the table! The walls here echo the colours of the interior furnishing. The colours chosen are such they bring outside environment inside the room. With a lighter shade to complement it, green here is bursting with energy and standing out on its own. It feels that the colours of garden have transcended inside the room also. The overall effect is thus unwinding and calm.

The black lamp, side table and centre table also look a part of the whole scheme of colours because none is fighting for attention. However, I feel that the resident could have gone a bit daring by using red on the walls. White roof and the big painting although imparts a cool effect, makes the area a bit unimaginative. A dash of colour never hurts if chosen properly and used rightly! In the end, it is also about one’s personality and temperament. Let that reflect in the space you decorate, because you are the one who would be using it later on!

Dance & tune into the colours inside

Have you ever wondered what does expression mean? Expression is the way one lets others know what goes on in one’s mind. Expression is words, vocabulary and a lot more. Words are just one way to express.

There are some art forms that are used to express one self as beautifully as words can. Performing arts help express one self very deeply. There are colours of depth that are there in the expressions that are communicated with the performing arts. The art forms are a very colourful tool to express oneself, especially dancing.

Someone has rightly said that “Dance is the hidden language of the soul of the body.” Dance is an expression of joy. Movements, gestures and facial expressions when in a colourful harmony make it a delightful way to express and emote. Also, dancing is the most creative and simplest of ways to let the emotions that otherwise are tough to be expressed. One does not need any training when one wishes to dance. Dancing is about letting others see the real individual that one is. It is about letting go of all the inhibitions and shake off all the stress that may have been there restricted and inaccessible for others to see.

Dance is the colourful celebration of being alive. There are millions of ways in which one can express one self, dancing is merely one of them and is the simplest. Dance like no one is there to watch, shed off the inhibitions, let go of all the fears and just celebrate the colourful movement of life. Let the colours inside harmonize with the ones that we inhabit everyday and present a colourful rhythm that has the melodies and colourful notes to match that depth called Life. Apne Rang Chalakne do!

Revel in all colours

What is the essence of happy living? Is it love and care? Is it money? Or anything else? Key to happy living is all of it- the love, the care and even the money. Money can’t buy happiness, they say. It is true. But, money is important to enjoy the different experiences that life has to offer. Life has tremendous experiences on offer which are colourful and so dynamic that each experience that goes amiss, some a colourful moment slips like sand.

Life is beautiful, vibrant and dynamic. Each moment in life is colourful and has to be enjoyed. Tears, joy, anger, envy…everything comes in the package called life. It is in our hands to either relish the taste of these emotions that add colour to our life or just let life be full of regrets and grumbles. Celebration of every emotion is not literally enjoying the moments of sadness and tears, but it means to not loose that faith in life. It means to engage oneself in acceptance of life that’s forever changing. It means to hang in there and take life with a pinch of salt and have faith even when things go wrong.

Colour life with the brilliance of faith, be accepting towards the change and live it up. There will be colours of failures, shades of successes and sometimes close…sometimes distant hues of opportunities to add a brighter side to life. Take it all as it comes, embrace with an open heart and enjoy the dance of reveling colours of life!!!

Paint with primer using popular shades

The first concern that strikes while deciding to repaint the house is – Which Colour? With colours now being generated with the help of computer, there are a plethora of shades of one single colour. The more the colours, the more the confusion. When faced with this dilemma, most people go for some tried and tested popular paint colours.

Good ol’ white tops the list. It is a versatile colour and people use different shades of it on walls. It is a soothing colour and suits all personality types. White on four walls and deep blue colour of the ceiling gives a serene look to the room. Similarly, you can keep two or three walls of white shade and go for a contrasting colour on the remaining walls. After white, yellow is the colour of masses for doing the living room. Some people prefer baby pink too but guys might not like it in particular!

Other popular paint colours include grey and blue. However times are changing and so are the trends. People are experimenting with different colours and looks for their houses.

To get the best final result, always paint with primer. The primer is an adhesive which sticks to a surface to be painted and prepares it to receive the colour more efficiently. It also imparts durability and gives smooth finish. Applying primer becomes essential when the surface to be painted is porous (like concrete, drywall, wood ect.) or is not water resistant. Primering also protect the wall from moulds.

Primers come in different colours. When you are going for a lighter shade of the wall, use a light coloured primer. However, if the shade is a deep colour, then selecting a primer tinted of the similar colour will reduce the number of coats of paint required to apply on the wall. So get set to paint!

After all, different folks different strokes!

MAINTAINING CURTAINS

Curtains can really add or take away visual appeal of any room. Curtains are used for protection against weather and to ensure privacy in your home.

Choose a thick fabric for curtains to make sure that excessive sun rays do not bother you. Thick curtains can help you make sure that your home is protected against extreme weather. Also, thicker fabrics are more durable. However, thicker fabrics may be tough to wash. These can be dry cleaned though. There are a wide variety of designs, colours and patterns available in case of thicker curtains too, to pick from. Lighter fabrics are used for aesthetic purpose more than for functional purpose.

Since, curtains are hung against windows, they are bound to catch dirt and may even suffer discolouration due to exposure to heat. The dirt and dust around the house and even from the outside gets accumulated and make the curtains dirty. Due to exposure from the outside, curtains catch dust and dirt; therefore, they need to be maintained against the dirt.

Cleaning your curtains regularly is the key to beautiful rooms. Generally people wash curtains in the washing machine. However, too much detergent and wrong kind of washing powder may take away the colour and shine of your curtains, making them look old and damaged. In order to protect curtains, you can also use dusters and even vacuum cleaner. Steam cleaners are also available to protect and maintain curtains. Maintaining curtains is as important as choosing and hanging them. No matter how pretty your curtains are; if you do not clean them properly and do not maintain them well, your room is not going to look pretty.

PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR DOORS

Doors usually are left ignored while one is busy taking care of the rest of the home decoration. There are a lot factors that have to be taken into account when it comes to choosing doors for your home.

Overall style of the door is important. You need to make sure what style you like the best for your doors. The style should definitely agree with the rest of your décor. If your décor is rich and royal, then heavy antique design doors are best for your room. If your décor is classy and contemporary, then you may choose glass doors or lightweight doors. Also, you need to pick from panel doors, glass doors, flush doors etc.

Consider the material of the door while choosing doors for your home. Solid wooden doors would be expensive than others but are always a great choice to lend a traditional and evergreen appeal to your décor. You need to choose the kind of glass that you are using if you decide to opt for glass doors. Synthetic doors are also available in great styles and colours.

Keep in mind the safety and security issue as well. Opt for a multi-lock system and good quality doors for the areas that lead to gardens, terraces and other open out of the house areas. Make sure the quality of your doors leading to the exterior of the house is very good and sturdy so as to have proper safety and protection for your home and family.

Choose colours of your doors as per the colour of your walls to make a perfect blend of style in your home decoration. You can choose colours of your walls from the wide variety of shades of hues Dulux provides. Match the doors with your wall colours and your home decoration to create a balanced and harmonious look of your space.

To increase and elaborate this feeling of peace and tranquility, one can really create a beautiful garden using simple steps. In order to manipulate one’s garden, one needs to take care of garden’s shape, cost, one’s taste, pavement area and the fences. One can colour coordinate the flowers in one’s garden to increase the garden’s visual appeal! You can mix a variety of colours to create a harmonious and contrasting combination in your flowers. Blue and yellow are contrasting colours while yellow and orange are colours in harmony with each other. Bright colourful flowers such as English marigolds, yellow and orange coloured pansy's and polyanthus are fantastic for making your garden look and feel more positive on a cold drab winter day. You can opt for red coloured chrysanthemums or lilies to add dash of colours in your garden. White daisies and yellow flower giving, herbaceous plants are great options for your garden in summers.

Add colours everywhere around you. Add shades of lighter hues and bold colours, even in your garden and see the difference in your mood and temper. COLOURS AND CHILD PSYCHOLOGY

Colours affect our lives in a big way. Colours have a relation to child psychology. Children love all colours and are very responsive towards colours. The first thing that children respond towards while learning and growing up is colours. Little children are always attracted to bright colours. Colour preferences are formed and keep changing amongst children as they grow older.

Children’s colour preferences are also closely connected with gender. Little girls prefer pink, lavender, and violet. Boys like blacks and other dark colours. These colour preferences are sometimes innate and sometimes acquired. Right from childhood, knowingly or unknowingly parents or guardians accustom children to certain colours. These colours become primary choices of the children and the affinity with these colours remains throughout life.

Also, children also get enamoured by colours of their favourite toys and the other children products. The manufacturers of these kid products and toys play upon children’s feelings. Colours are a great way to affect child psychology and are ultimate option to grab children attention. These acquired preferences keep changing throughout life.

Children also form favourites in colours by virtue of the associated memories or significations attached to them. For example, the chances are great for a child to love the colour red if he loves to eat strawberry that his/her mother gets him/her.

Innate preferences in colours are inexplicable in logic and actually speak volumes about one’s personality. A child who likes dull shades and never really experiments with colours is likely to have a subdued and inexpressive personality. On the other hand, a child who is chirpy and cheery always, would go in for brighter shades in terms of preference! Mixed choices amongst shades of brighter and slightly pastel colours reflect balanced personality!

DO NOT BE AFRAID OF COLOURS

Have you ever noticed that some people are comfortable experimenting with different colours and hues while some stay far aloof from bright hues?! Some people are scared of colours and they always go in for dull shades like browns, whites and blacks etc.

Chromatophobia is the fear of colours. It is a psychological hesitation that comes with fear of making mistakes in experimentation with colours! You can go in for small dashes of colours instead of large quantities. You can accessorize your home with colourful furnishing, wall paintings, curtains, vases, cushions, pillows, sofas etc. instead of being fearful of committing faux pas with colours; you can add small amounts of colours into your home décor to balance out colours.

You can balance colour in your home by using a lot of white and tone down the vibrant colours. You can use neutral area rug, neutral glasses and vases etc. to avoid getting overwhelmed with colours.

You can test colour of your walls first by painting a small patch instead of painting the whole room and then regretting it. You can be comfortable with your colour choice for your walls and then paint your whole house. This will take away the fear of committing a mistake with colours. Adding colours in your home brings a new life and a new energy to your home. Colours uplift your mood and fill your mind with vibrant thoughts.

Do not be afraid of colours, colours are essential to feel alive. They spice up our lives and make us feel good about it. Express you personality through colours. Do not shy away and hide behind dull greys and earthy browns always. Though, earthy browns and other neutral tones are also essential to balance out the colours in your home, they shouldn’t be the only colours gracing your décor. You should bring in bright and cheerful colours and balance them with the hues of neutral shades. Balance and harmony is the key to give way to colours in to your home and to make your home look appealing and well-coordinated in colours!
