USE LAMPS TO ADD STYLE TO YOUR DECOR

Lamps have been here for long. Right from earlier times till now lamps have been used, either for their functionality or for aesthetic purposes. Nowadays different kinds of lamps are being used to accessorize homes.

People spend a lot of amount in decorating their homes. However, they can easily bring a refreshing air to their rooms by just adding beautiful, colourful lamps around the corners of the house. A space can easily be accentuated by using a bright, colourful lamp.

Ceiling lights, no doubt are much more effective in terms of function but lamps really add on to the aesthetic value of any room. There are different shapes, designs that one can experiment with.

You can try putting lamps:

· Near a painting to bring out the mystic effect and make the artwork look beautiful.

· On a table in the corner alongside your seating in the living room, to add a touch of warmth and style together. Lamps definitely provide a finish to your décor.

· Close to the plants. Leaves will cast shadows on the walls making it look extremely exotic and mysterious at the same time.

· To highlight your book shelf. Lamp lights falling onto the glaring covers of your books will create a beautiful effect.

· In your kitchen to add to the décor and make your kitchen look stylish and contemporary.

· In your bedroom, at the side table. This will help you read in bed. You can read books; magazines cuddled up in bed and even leave the lamp on if you like little light spreading across the room while you sleep.

Have fun decorating your house!

MAINTAINING CURTAINS

Curtains can really add or take away visual appeal of any room. Curtains are used for protection against weather and to ensure privacy in your home.

Choose a thick fabric for curtains to make sure that excessive sun rays do not bother you. Thick curtains can help you make sure that your home is protected against extreme weather. Also, thicker fabrics are more durable. However, thicker fabrics may be tough to wash. These can be dry cleaned though. There are a wide variety of designs, colours and patterns available in case of thicker curtains too, to pick from. Lighter fabrics are used for aesthetic purpose more than for functional purpose.

Since, curtains are hung against windows, they are bound to catch dirt and may even suffer discolouration due to exposure to heat. The dirt and dust around the house and even from the outside gets accumulated and make the curtains dirty. Due to exposure from the outside, curtains catch dust and dirt; therefore, they need to be maintained against the dirt.

Cleaning your curtains regularly is the key to beautiful rooms. Generally people wash curtains in the washing machine. However, too much detergent and wrong kind of washing powder may take away the colour and shine of your curtains, making them look old and damaged. In order to protect curtains, you can also use dusters and even vacuum cleaner. Steam cleaners are also available to protect and maintain curtains. Maintaining curtains is as important as choosing and hanging them. No matter how pretty your curtains are; if you do not clean them properly and do not maintain them well, your room is not going to look pretty.

TABLES FOR YOUR HOUSE

Tables are most functional pieces of furniture. Nowadays, tables are available in a number of styles, sizes and kinds. You can definitely try out newer options in tables and innovate your room décor! There are dining tables, coffee tables, centre tables, side tables, end tables, telephone tables, foyer tables etc. that are used around the house.

Dining table serves as a common table for all the family members during the meals. It is either used in kitchen or in a separate dining room. You can definitely choose a dining table as per the number of people using it.

Coffee tables and centre tables are used while you enjoy a relaxing moment with a cup of coffee with your family members. Coffee tables can be placed in and around drawing area, foyer, terrace etc., basically anywhere you like to sit and have a cup of coffee.

End tables and side tables serve aesthetic as well as functional purpose. These are placed aside the sofas, chairs in your drawing room or living room to allow you to give that perfect finish to the rest of your furniture. These tables aesthetically enhance your décor and also allow you and your guests to rest items like tea cups, glasses, plates etc. when they are seated around the sofas, chatting.

Telephone Tables are placed aside your beds or sofas. These need to be as high as the sofas and beds against which they are placed. They are usually used to put telephones and lamps.

A foyer table cum chest is kept right at the entry way. You can place lamps, keys, flowers etc. on foyer tables. Make sure you do not have foyer tables that are too overbearing or that seem intimidating as they are the first things that anyone who enters your house will see.

Tables can really be the statement of your style and be highlight of your room décor, just like other pieces of furniture. Make sure you choose tables as per your style, design you like, material (wood, glass, stone etc.) that would be the most feasible for you and your family and gels well with your room decor. Enjoy decorating!
