Go Green with Eco-friendly Paint

Doing the interiors well and coloring the walls with the right colour is one of the top most priorities while painting your dream house. In India however, the patron usually choose colour and leave rest of the responsibility to the laborers or contractor. However, if you know some of the basic painting tips, you could be more involved in the whole process and once the task of painting the house is finished, you will see the fruits of ‘your’ hard work being reflected by the walls.

There are some painting tips which should be kept in mind while rendering the task. Wall should be thoroughly scrubbed to remove loose particles of dust sticking on the surface or drops of other paints. Also, the wall should be dry. Application of a primer adds durability to the paint and the colour will last long. Primering the wall, however, can be avoided while painting the exterior of the house. After the primer dries, one should begin brushing. Choice of brushes and paint used affects the final outcome in a big way. Since paint is an emulsion ie a mixture of two insoluble compounds, the solution in the can should be mixed properly, diluted (if necessary) before use.

These days, eco-friendly paints are available which do not contain harmful pigments like lead, mercury, chromium and VOCs (volatile organic compound) which damages the environment. VOCs when released in air deplete the ozone layer and contribute to global warming. Now latex paints are used often because they are water based. However, one drawback of water based latex paint is that they are unsuitable for painting iron surfaces.

AkzoNobel, India’s leading manufacturer of paint has come up with customized solutions for the users while keeping in mind the environmental responsibilities.
