Decorating house on Diwali

Diwali is a festival of lights and people attach special importance to cleaning their homes on this festival because goddess Laxmi is worshipped on this festival, who, it is believed, showers prosperity and bounty on her devotees. So people clean their homes, get whitewash and painting done, redecorate spaces and light their homes on Diwali. The process of cleaning usually starts few weeks in advance. Let’s see what the current trends are this season in home décor.

If your walls are a boring yellow or white colour, it is time to change it. Go for mixed combinations of red and purple which that exude luxury or brown and green to strike a perfect harmony. Fuschia and gold emanate elegance where as grey and lavender will keep you calm. Go for stripes of various colours in kitchen and the dining area to increase vitality of the space. Go green and put some plants on the terrace or stairs leading upto your home. A subtle way to beckon prosperity towards your abode!

Apart from painting, cleaning also involves sterilizing the wall. Therefore, go for anti-fungal and stain resistant paint. Your wooden furniture also needs as much care as the walls do because wood can decay due to water and algae attack. Coat the exterior wooden surface with enamel paint in matt or glossy finish as per your interior. However, do not forget to paint the interior of the wooden cabinets with emulsion paints too. This will give complete protection to your furniture and you can flaunt it for years to come! So get on the Dulux site and begin selecting the colours which you would like to splash on your walls and furniture this festive season!
