Studio apartments are extremely popular in cities these days. The reason behind the popularity of studio apartments is the extreme shortage of space due to increasing population in cities. The studio apartments are really small places and one has to really put in effort in order to make the apartment however small a place that is comfortable, functional and decent.

The basic parts in an apartment are a kitchen and a single big living room. The challenge lies in decorating one single room that’s available in such a way that it fulfills your requirements completely. The single studio room should be able to work as your crash-pad after a day’s work, dining area, relaxing area, living room, guest-room, study room and even your dressing room… all of it together. So let’s discuss the things that you need to take care as you do up your studio apartment to make it a comfortable and multi-functional place for yourself-
Space friendly furnishing- Using sofa cum bed is a very good option owing to its ability to serve as a sofa and bed as per one’s convenience. A mattress spread on the floor with interesting bed-cover and cushions to go with which can serve as a floor seating with guests and as a sleeping area at the night time is also a good option. Have a pair of cane chairs or bean bags which you can place in corners against one wall just in case you have old people who can’t sit on the floor visiting your home! Have a rack or shelve or two neatly hung against a wall for your stuff like books, some cosmetics, CDs, accessories etc. Keep atleast one mattress, bed-sheets, pillow spare handy for your guests.
Equipment- Opt for an LCD television that can be fixed onto the wall without consuming much space. Choose a small size fridge that you place on one of your kitchen countertops to avoid using the limited floor space and cramping it all.
Storage spaces- Have good storage space in your studio apartment to avoid cluttering the space with your stuff lying here and there. Have cupboards fixed into the walls instead of buying too many shelves, racks and almirahs. You can buy a trunk too and cover it to be used as a table at one corner of your room but then make sure that you don’t pile on useless stuff on the trunk…keep it clean with just a picture or two on it.
Decoration- Paint a wall with a texture paint to give a fancy and dressy look to the small space you have. Hang pictures of yours and your family in simple frames. Have a plant or two in your kitchen to add some freshness to the whole space. Make sure you have a wooden divider; you can keep the divider at one corner as a decoration artifact and use it when you have guests at your place and you wish to give yourself and them some privacy.
